New Puppy Feeding Guidelines
Here at Cimar all puppies are weaned to a Raw diet. We understand Raw is not for everyone so we hope to guide you to the easiest transition possible. For us we like how our puppies wean, grow and develop on raw in the early stages. We also appreciate to smaller lesser occurring stools and the minimal to no odor
*We feed primarily Beef and Chicken Proteins. Our raw product is ground so the bones are finely ground. This helps prevent choking hazards for puppies. Adult dogs can chew crunch and consume raw poultry bones. The product we use is called Blue Ridge Beef we feed a combination of Breeders Choice or Puppy Mix Combined with Chicken with Bone. If you are looking to continue with the same product we typically recommend feeding the same. You can click on the website above and see if there are distributors in your area.
*If you are unable to locate BRB in your area I suggest contacting local specialty pet supply stores to see what raw products they carry. Some that we consider acceptable are Instinct, Primal, Answers and Stella and Chewys. Some supply stores carry raw from local sources as well. Instinct is sold at petsmart if you are in a crunch. The new puppy should continue raw feeding for at least a week after arriving at the new home as the initial transition causes enough stress that dietary changes in that time can weaken the immune system.
*Puppies up to 4 months old typically eat 10% of their Body weight per day. A 10 pound puppy would eat 1 pound of raw divided among several feedings etc. This can be adjusted up or down depending on the individual puppy. After 4 months we typically reduce the puppy to %5 of their body weight and at 1 year decrease again to 3%. These are general guidelines but remember every puppy may have slightly different needs.
*If you are hoping to eventually switch to a kibble or dry diet we recommend as follows.
Feed a HIGH Quality premium performance food. We like Victor Hipro Plus or Nutra Pro Plus and/or Royal Canin Large Breed Puppy/Adult. We hope for pet parents to have a good understanding that what goes into your pup as it is just as meaningful as genetics in terms of overall health.
DO NOT FEED A GRAIN FREE DIET!!!!!
*If transitioning we recommend as follows
Week 1 AM Raw, Mid Day small kibble meal (small), PM Raw (expect more poop)
Week 2 AM Raw, Mid Day and PM Meals Kibble (more poop)
Week 3 All Meals Kibble (poop volume should be normalizing)
We Do offer ALL of our dogs a supplemental probiotic from Natures Farmacy They also have great vitamins such as Ultimate but click HERE to be directed to the website for the probiotic I would recommend this for all puppies and adult dogs.
THE PICKING PROCESS
The picking process. Everybody always wants to know that if they leave a deposit which order do they get to pick do they get first pick or second pick etc..
With all breedings, I do them first and foremost for myself not to sell puppies, not to make a certain color that is going to meet the demand of all the Pet people contacting me, not to make money for myself, but to further my breeding program, to produce something that I am hoping will conform as close as possible to the breed standard, to make my next up-and-coming show prospect and performance dog.
This means that nobody picks before me there is no amount of money that you can offer me to get the first pick puppy from any litter that is not why I do this. That does not mean that you are not getting a show quality puppy or a high-quality Puppy, it means that I am looking for something very specific and I will pick the puppy that meets those specifications .
I am not picking my puppy based on color or markings but based on something I need to fill a void in my program. I do not pick my puppy the minute they are born and I will not let you do so either. My biggest priority is to match puppies with Lifelong families, so we consider more things than just markings and color.
I usually pick my puppy somewhere between five and seven weeks of age sometimes not until 8, after they have begun to develop personalities and I can watch them walk around and I can evaluate structure, I cannot do these things on a puppy that was just born that is literally a blob. If you are hoping to pick and purchase a puppy strictly on markings and color I highly suggest you find a breeder that will sell you a puppy that is already born that has the markings and color you are looking for as I cannot promise that in any upcoming breeding. I will have a specific set of markings that will be available for you. I do do color testing on all of my dogs so I do know what colors are expected in any given breeding so I can tell you what is possible and impossible in any upcoming breeding.
I do take pictures of the puppies frequently and post them to the website or send them out to the individuals waiting for puppies and then as the puppies grow I can evaluate temperaments and work closely with the families trying to match the right puppies with the right families, obviously I will try very hard to match you with the desired gender and color but I cannot always promise that will born or even available in the first available litter.... You may have to be somewhat flexible or understand that if that specific gender or color is not available you may have to wait a little bit longer. I do of course try to prioritize people who have been waiting the longest but not in any specific order. The ultimate goal is to get the right puppy with the right family. This picking process usually occurs around the same time that I am picking my own puppy which is around 5 to 7 weeks of age so I strongly tell people not to get attached to specific puppies based on pictures and markings to be open-minded to all puppies in the litter. Ultimately we want the more Alpha puppies with experienced Bully breed homes, we want the low key family looking for the snuggle buddy to not get the most high drive puppy in the litter, the most reserved puppy in the litter doesn't need to go to a family that has 6 kids and constant chaos that perhaps could not devote extra time for socializing a more introverted puppy. My performance competition homes are looking for a high drive no fear temperament. All of these things have more bearing on puppy placement. My goal is to not have puppies returned because they didn't suit the family lifestyle. If I only placed puppies on markings we would have more incidences of wrong puppy wrong home. This breed needs advocates and part of that means my job is to make sure the new pet parents get the right dog so they don't lose faith in the breed.
